What’s wrong with this picture?

In under two weeks it was covered with weeds.

Did I really think the grass would stay put? Or the dormant weed seeds I turned up wouldn’t sprout just because I would yell at them?  All those nice little perennials were choked by creeping charlie and switch grass. I think there’s licorice bark mulch on there. Yeah, that’s a joke. You could hear the creeping charlie snickering a mile away.

Here’s what it looks like now in January, about three years later. A mess. But I plan to weed it properly in the Spring.
